Geeking out because it's my birthday

Today is my birthday. Well, kind of. Coming from the other side of the ocean where they live a day into the future, my born day was actually yesterday. Which, as my brother pointed out, would have made me a leap baby had I been born here, and this year would be one of the 22 years from my life so far that my birthday did not exist. Kind of a crazy thought I'm still processing, but it's okay - I'm getting fairly used to processing things these days! (A day in the life of a BSSM student).

But, gratefully, I was born on the other side of the ocean, so my born day still exists, even if it has taken a little longer to arrive than normal! So enough on that already.

Today, I became a cube, for the third time out of what will probably be four times in my life. And not just any cube, but the cube of three.

If, like me, you are part of the (very small) minority in this world who find mathematics beautiful, you understand just how special this really is. But if not, the significance of this number is too great for me to not to share, it's my birthday - humour me.

As a Christian, three is a really significant number. It represents God, in his divine nature as three persons in one, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. It also represents completion and perfection. Jesus came back to life after three days, destroying the power of sin and death. There were three feasts God commanded the Israelites to keep, Noah populated the earth with three sons, Jesus' ministry on the earth was three years, I could go on. The number three appears many times in the Bible and usually it is to do with something being completed or perfected.

Back to cubes. When you multiply a number by itself three times, you get a cube. Just like the cube shape, where there are 3 dimensions, the length, depth, and height are all the same size. It is a beautiful, perfect, unusual occurrence, and as the numbers get bigger it becomes less frequent.

The first cube is 1 x 1 x 1, which is 1 (not 3 guys...). This was the time I learned to walk, to talk, to communicate in a way that expressed my personality. A fairly significant year.

My second year of the cube was 8 (2 x 2 x 2). This was the year I discovered how much I like teaching people things (does it show?). Nearly every meaningful decision I have made since has been influenced on this discovery as an eight year old. Also fairly significant.

That brings us to today. I've reached my third cube, 27. The cube of 3. The completion of the number of completion. Sitting here on my bed, celebrating my third birthday in a row away from home, I cannot help but feel this is my own season of completion. My life has been pretty amazing. I have few regrets, and those I have I do my best to learn from. But I know there is so much more for me, so much more I have to give, so much more to discover and to share. I cannot wait to see what life as a 27 year old brings and the significant moments which are to come. All I know is that my last cube I didn't know what a cube was and my next cube is 64, the year before retirement age, so I am going to enjoy the experience of this one to its fullest extent.
